been the definitive source in English for locating a poem in anthologies on
library shelves.
Learn-A-Test: by LearningExpressLibrary: an
innovative instructional and test preparation website that offers
comprehensive courses in math, reading, and writing; essay writing practice
with instant scoring; resume writing and workplace skills enrichment; and
more than 300 online practice tests for students and adults of all ages. All
practice tests include instant score reports that help you target those
skill areas that need the most attention. Complete answer explanations
accompany each test question so that you understand why a particular answer
is right or wrong. The database provides unlimited access to interactive
skill-building courses and a broad range of practice tests based on such
official exams as the ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB, Firefighter, Police Officer,
Paramedic, EMT Basic, U.S. Citizenship, Postal Worker, Real Estate Agent and
Broker Exams. LearnATest is funded with Central Book Aid, administered
through the Geneva Free Library, and PLS Outreach funds designated for job
information resources.
Novelist: a reader's advisory, fiction database
that provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations, and much more
for over 125,000 fiction titles. It also includes other content of interest
to fiction readers, such as Author Read-alikes, What We’re Reading, Book
Discussion Guides, BookTalks, and Annotated Book Lists. For children's
services specialists, there are Picture Book Extenders and articles on
Teaching with Fiction.
OCLC WorldCat: contains the bibliographic records cataloged by
OCLC members. There are currently over 41,000,000 records in the database,
in over 400 languages and multiple formats, including books, audio-visual
materials, software, and Web resources. Access to WorldCat is made possible
through the shared database program of the Rochester Regional Library
Council.
Rochester Democrat and Chronicle: includes
backfile from 1999- date. It is complete full-text content of local and
regional news, including community events, schools, politics, government
policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people
in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded. Access to the D&C is
made possible through the shared database program of the Rochester Regional
Library Council and PLS participation is funded by Geneva Free Library
Central Book Aid.

Ebsco and Gale Databases provided by the New York State Library include:
Author Series from Twayne:
Each contains the full-text of 200 frequently used Twayne Literary Masters
books, for a total of 600 individual full-text titles. In addition to high
quality information about authors and their works, the Twayne databases are
invaluable for research (high school and college) because of their focus on
literary criticism and historical context.

A fully integrated
resource bringing together company information and histories, brand
information, rankings, investment reports, chronologies, and relevant
periodicals. Search this database to find detailed company and industry news

MasterFILE Select: Contains full-text for over 770 general interest periodicals, and 1250 pamphlets.
Primary Search: Designed for young researchers, and contains full-text for over 50 elementary school magazines, as well as encyclopedias, images, and historical documents.
Searchasaurus: Provides a more animated interface to Primary Search resources.
EBSCO Animals: Provides in-depth information on a variety of topics relating to animals. The database consists of indexing, abstracts, and full text records describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals.
TOPICsearch: A current events database of social, political, economic issues and other popular topics discussed in today's classrooms.
General Science Collection: Provides information on all aspects of the scientific world and offers full-text coverage for more than 60 of the most popular science publications, including Archaeology, Astronomy, Discover, National Wildlife, New Scientist, Popular Science, Science News, Scientific American, and many others. Subject areas covered include the observation, description, identification, and experimental investigation of phenomena and the application of science to industrial or commercial objectives. The database also includes Great Scientific Achievements of the Twentieth Century, a multi-volume encyclopedia from Salem Press.
EBSCOhost Espanol: Provides a Spanish language interface for the EBSCOhost databases.
Custom Newspapers: A collection of 150 newspapers, both national and international.
New York State Newspapers: Newspapers from Buffalo, New York City, and Syracuse.
National Newspaper Index: Quick access to the indexing of America's top five newspapers--The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post.
Gale Virtual Library:
a database of encyclopedias,
almanacs, and specialized reference sources in Business, History, and
Medicine. These reference materials once were accessible only in the
library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely
24/7.
Health and Wellness Resource Center & Alternative Health Module: Use this Resource Center to find magazines, journals,
newspapers, definitions, directories, and information on: Fitness,
Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health
and Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, Prescription Drugs, Herbal remedies, and
alternative or complementary treatments, etc. Included are links to diet,
cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases.
Health Reference Center - Academic:
This full-text, multi-source
database provides single-search access to the wide variety of health
information sources in Health Reference Center plus 40 full-text nursing and
allied health journals. All in a single, easy-to-use database, Health
Reference Center--Academic integrates the full-text of respected nursing,
allied health, and medical journals; consumer health magazines; reference
books; newsletters; pamphlets; newspaper articles; referral information; and
topical overviews.
Informe: (Espanol): designed to meet the research
needs of Spanish-speaking users, offering full-text articles from Spanish
and bi-lingual periodicals.
Infotrac Junior Edition: designed for students in
junior high and middle school, with magazines, newspapers, and reference
books (most are full-text) for information on current events, the arts,
science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports, and
more.
